Ambassadors of Awesome
Step one in my soul search for passion. In chatting about life with my husband & all of the things that we enjoy most, I realized something. We are giant, passionate nerds. This was not really a surprise. I've always known we are both super geeks. I mean, I've got a Pinterest board titled 'I'm Geeky & I Know it,' for heaven's sake. It's the idea that it is a shared "passion" that was the revelation.
That may sound a little extreme but it's more or less true. Many of the things we love (board games, comic books, cartoons set in space) are pretty damn geeky. That got me thinking. If we love those things & spend a lot of our time doing them & we're not at all ashamed to be geeky...why isn't it something we talk more about? Why don't I share those things on this blog? And if we feel that way, how many other closet geeks are out there?
I think it comes down to this; there are two main categories of established geeks. The Super Geek & the Closet Geek are on two opposite ends of the spectrum. Now I'm generalizing a little here but bear with me...
The Super Geeks: Those that hang out in game shops playing Magic the Gathering, dress up for midnight releases of their favorite fantasy movies, & wear super hero t-shirts daily.
The Closet Geeks: Those that can't get enough of Dr. Who & have secretly always had a thing for Nathan Fillion but are terrified to walk into a comic shop alone.
Hunky, right?
We think we've found a happy middle ground. The type of geek that knows all of those nerdy things they love are AWESOME but doesn't let life be consumed by that. Make sense? We want to share that awesome with you & teach geeks everywhere how to embrace their inner nerd while maintaining an approachable & not at all scary exterior. Because, let's face it, some Super Geeks can seem kinda scary...especially the ones that haven't showered in a while.
Will has decided to call us the Ambassadors of Awesome. I can't think of anything more appropriate. Maybe we'll make Ambassadors of Awesome out of you. :)
PS there may be a blog in the works. I'll keep you posted. PPS already an Ambassador of Awesome? Share your ideas with me! laura{at}thelbeauroom.com
Edit: Will would like to point out that there is a third category that I have neglected. The Hopeful Geek: Those that are testing the waters of geekery. They aren't sure what to like, spend money on, or the rules of etiquette in this new arena. Don't worry, Hopeful Geek, we'll help you find your way.
